This lecture will take you on a journey into the glamorous and exciting world of Haute Couture. With nearly 150 years passing since the criteria for Haute Couture was formated. This talk will review some of the amazing Couture houses that have been a part of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture.

Tackling and exploring the answers too questions such as:

  • What is it about the process that defines these garments haute couture?
  • When was the sewing machine and tape measure invented?
  • What are the skills and practises needed to create an haute couture outfit?
  • What has key designers individually brought to the world of couture?

Couturier Desirée Köster has been creating couture outfits for over 25 years both in some of London’s finest couture houses as an employee and as Creative Director for Desirée Köster Couture Ltd.

In her lecture she will be sharing with you some of her knowledge gained from years within the industry. You will be able to analyse couture garments closely through samples to see the different techniques used when creating such artistic clothing up close.
